“The hidden and the visible: the quarters of the Italian cities in the Old City of Akko”: Lecture and guided tour. Lecturer: Dr. Eliezer Stern. SPECIAL EVENT organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa
At the time of the Crusaders, in the middle of the Genoese quarter, there was a covered street with stores and shops, which was the lively heart of the city. Some traces of that road are still there, beneath the structures of the Ottoman city. The lecture and the following guided tour will introduce and lead us to the portion of the street, which is now open to the public for the first time.
On this occasion, we will also make a toast to the New Year and present the upcoming series of lectures, which will deal with the connections between Acre and Italy through the sea.
Prior to dr. Stern’s lecture, the students of the University of Firenze will present the outcomes of their stage in Akko: the digitalization of some buildings in the Old City (in English).
