XL Haifa International Film Festival
Twelve ITALIAN MOVIES on the program | Haifa, December 31, 2024 – January 11, 2025

Twelve Italian movies, of which three in competition, will be screened in Israel as part of the 40th edition of the Haifa International Film Festival (HIFF), one of the most important events in the country for cinema lovers and industry professionals. All movies are in their original language, with English and Hebrew subtitles.

Italy is present at the 40th Haifa International Film Festival with some of its most recent and successful movies, such as VERMIGLIO (2024), by Maura Delpero, winner of the Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize and the Green Drop Award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, in the running in Haifa in the Carmel International Competition section, together with CONFIDENZA (2024), by Daniele Luchetti, based on the novel of the same name by Domenico Starnone, and SICILIAN LETTERS (2024), by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, winner of the Pasinetti Award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival; PARTHENOPE (2024), by Paolo Sorrentino, presented as a world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it run for the Palme d’Or, in Haifa is part of the Gala Panorama section, together with LIMONOV: THE BALLAD (2024), by Kirill Serebrennikov, an Italian-French-Spanish co-production, which sought prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, and the Italian-Israeli film READING LOLITA IN TEHERAN (2024), by Eran Riklis, based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Azar Nafisi. Also on the program at the 40th HIFF are a documentary by  Péter Kerekes, WISHING ON A STAR (2024), and an unprecedented retrospective dedicated to the Taviani brothers, with ST. MICHAEL HAD A ROOSTER (1972), ALLOSANFAN (1974), PADRE E PADRONE (1977), THE NIGHT OF THE SHOOTING STARS (1982) and GOOD MORNING, BABYLON (1987).

Haifa Classics | Taviani Retrospective

The Italian participation in the event, which will close on Saturday 11 January 2025 and which takes place in the splendid setting of Mount Carmel, was organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa and Cinecittà.
