What happens to photography when reality itself increasingly appears constructed, mediated, and artificial? This lecture explores Italian photography from the 1990s to the present through the work of artists engaging with globalization, mass tourism, technological advances, urban transformations, and new ways of creating images. Their work shifts the focus from representing Italy to questioning the very nature of reality, which has become increasingly unstable and elusive.

ABOUT THE SERIES | This series traces the evolution of modern and contemporary Italian photography, from depictions of postwar social realities to the complexities of today’s visual culture. Through the works of leading Italian photographers, we will explore how photography has documented society and political change, reimagined the Italian landscape, and captured the transformations of contemporary life, from globalization and new technologies to tourism.
