metastasio

A close examination of one of the greatest Italian poets of all time, whose best works (to the contrary of his own opinion) were those destined to be set in music. Structure and euphonic verse, unparalleled fame. Lots of music. An opportunity to better understand the opera/melodramma of the eighteenth century, its follies, its castrati.

  • FREE admission. In order to receive the link to the Zoom meeting, it is necessary to send an email to iichaifa@esteri.it.

Massimo Acanfora Torrefranca studied music and musicology in Rome, with Pierluigi Petrobelli (director of the Institute of Verdian Studies, one of the world’s leading authorities in the field of Italian opera), and completed his doctoral studies at Princeton and Jerusalem. He was a professor of music history at the Hebrew University for several years, editor-in-chief at the Deutsche Grammophon in Hamburg, director of the National Music Library and the National Sound Archives in Jerusalem, as well as director and host of music programs for Radio3 Rai.

Online event held in Italian.
