In the framework of the international workshop CONSERVATION AND MUSEALIZATION OF THE WORLD HERITAGE SITE OF BEIT SHEARIM, organized by the Technion in Haifa and Politecnico di Milano, a lecture by Prof. Angelo Lorenzi, Politecnico di Milano. Tivoli is characterized by a territory which includes many relevant elements, whose presence suggests and permits to shape an unparalleled network of cultural, historical and environmental values: Villa Adriana, Villa d’Este, Villa Gregoriana’s waterfalls in the Valle dell’Inferno, the prosperous countryside, rich in vegetation and agricultural cultivations, the Travertine quarries, the river Aniene and the water routes which nurture aqueducts, wells and pools, the Mausoleo dei Plauzi, Ponte Lucano and, in the wider area, the Parco Archeologico Naturale dell’Inviolata, the Riserva di Monte Catillo. The project approaches this landscape with the aim to resew the pieces that are currently apart, and thus to enhance the environmental, archaeological and architectural assets which are spread and integrated in a system that acknowledges their identity and restores their relational balance through paths, alignments and views bearing historical and environmental values. The intervention avoids to “carve” the territory and exploits subtle suturing tools, allowing the history of the places to define the settlement rules.
Event held in English.
Refreshments from 18:00.
Angelo Lorenzi was born in Turin in 1963 and lives and works in Milan. He is Associate Professor (Scientific disciplinary sector: ICAR/14 Architectural and urban design) at the Department of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering/ABC of Politecnico di Milano. The research themes developed by Angelo Lorenzi deal with various aspects, considered as parts of unitary
research work related to architectural design in Historical context, to the ancient building, the city and to its forms. The themes are focused on one hand on urban issues and single buildings, chosen as opportunities both for the widening of knowledge and for the concrete transformation of reality. On the other hand the themes are focused on the work of some architects, working in different countries, from Europe to Latin America who are anomalous and singular personalities of Modern architecture. Their work, set in the larger horizon of the critical revision of Modern architecture, is interpreted from the point of view of the continuity of worlds of forms and of the grounding in urban contexts.
