For the series HISTORICAL MULTI-LAYERED CITIES | THE HIDDEN AND THE VISIBLE IN ANCIENT AKKO, a lecture by Dr. Dani Sion. Event organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa.
In Akko, during the construction of new buildings or the renovations of old buildings, ancient ruins and archaeological remains often emerge. Three buildings in Akko (the court, the youth hostel and the Saraya), which incorporate findings from the Crusader period, were designed to allow the public to observe the ancient ruins and/or access them after completion of the renovation/construction.
The conference examines what has been discovered, considers its importance, evaluates how the planning phase approached the archaeological findings and judges the outcome. At the end of the lecture, we will visit the youth hostel and its ruins from the Crusader time.
