Helen Bar-Lev was born in New York in 1942. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology, has been living in Israel for 45 years and has held 95 exhibitions of her landscape paintings, 34 of which were one-woman shows. Poetry collections: Cyclamens and Swords and other poems about the land of Israel, and The Muse in the Suitcase, both with John Michael Simon, In Moonlight the Sky Will Slide with Katherine L. Gordon; Everything Today, a not-what-you-expect book of poetry about colours with her colour illustrations, and Love Letters, the Alphabet falls in love with itself are her latest collections. All books are illustrated by Helen Bar-Lev. She was nominated for the Pushcart Prize in 2013. She is a member of the Israel Artists and Sculptors Association and Assistant to the President of Voices Israel, an English poetry group (www.voicesisrael.com).
For 38 years Helen Bar-Lev had been painting Israeli landscapes, and while abroad, doing only quick sketches in black and white. In 2013 she traveled to Italy, fell in love with the country, and has been painting Italian landscapes ever since. An exhibition of these paintings entitled THE BEAUTY OF JEWISH ITALY will take place at the Haifa Artists House (Beit Chagall) from 23.6 until 14.7.2018, sponsored by the Italian Institute, and Mr. Maurizio Dessalvi, its director, will open the event. The Artists House is located at Sderot Hazionut 24 in Haifa.
