URBAN MUSEOLOGY. POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF MILANO & SHENKAR COLLEGE PROJECT | Lecture & guided tour

For the series “THE ITALIAN CONNECTION” | THE HIDDEN AND THE VISIBLE IN ANCIENT AKKO, a lecture and guided tour dedicated to the role of Italy in the preservation of Acre’s architectonic, artistic and archaeological heritage. Lecturer: Arch. David Pelterer (visiting professor from Italy).

khan al umdan

During the last two years, the Polytechnic University of Milan and Shenkar College in Tel Aviv have studied the Pisan district of Old Akko, looking for a link between architecture and archaeological remains within the urban fabric of the city: is it possible to interwine architecture and archeology? Which image do architecture and archaeology embody in Acco? How do locals perceive the archaelogical sites which surround them and in which they still live?
The lecture and the following guided tour will present the sites, which have been studied during these years: Khan al-Umdan, the adjacent small hamam and the fishermen’s square (Piazza Venezia).
