In the eighteenth century, the good education of European youth could not ignore the “grand tour” in Italy. Artists like Canaletto and Guardi, with their views of Venice, offered travelers the perfect “souvenir”. Giovanni Battista Tippolo, with his magnificent frescoes on the walls and ceilings of churches, villas and palaces, and Francesco Hayez, with his historical paintings, political allegories and portraits, close the Venetian tradition of the 18th/19th century.
