Surrounded by hills, Lucca’s villas are country palaces built by rich local merchants between the Fifteenth and Eighteenth Century.
The abundance of water and the mildness of the climate, also during winter time, encouraged the development of a horticultural heritage of exotic plants, including a rich variety of potted citruses, camellias and hydrangeas.
The most famous is Villa Reale di Marlia, former residence of Elisa Baciocchi, sister of Napoleon I and ruler of Lucca and Tuscany, where one can admire an Italian garden and an English park, featuring a lake. Also typical of the Lucchesia are Villa Mansi of Segromigno in Monte, Villa Torrigiani Colonna in Camigliano and Villa Bernardini in Lucca, all to be introduced during this lecture.

Event held in Hebrew, with slides in Italian.
Refreshments from 18:15.
