THE ENCOUNTER | Intercultural competence training course

Experiential:

  • “Family sculpture in transition”
  • Reflections: reciprocal cultural adaptation and related psychological experiences and challenges

A bit of theory:

  • Cultural shock, nostalgic disorientation and resilience (Papadopoulos, 2008, 2013; Hofstede, Pedersen, Hofstede, 2002)

Objectives:

  • Allow an opening to a complex and integrated understanding of both the migrantexpat and the host society’ perspectives
  • Psychoeducation about the expected possible integration steps, psychological stages, difficulties and opportunities.

The seminar aims at providing theoretical and practical tools to facilitate the integration in a new socio-cultural context, namely the Italian culture. The seminar is offered to prospective students and expats in Italy.

Course held in English.

Marta Longu holds a Master’s Degree in Social Psychology from the University of Cagliari and a Masters in Refugee Care from the University of Essex and Tavistock Clinic, United Kingdom.
