“Poetry and song. Two entities closely linked since ancient times. In some languages, including Hebrew, the two terms derive from the same root. Some cultures, such as the Italian one, have seen the development of almost indissoluble links between these two spheres from the very beginning of their own language. Generally, it is examined how the musicians (composers) have placed themselves in relation to existing poetic texts or to those created from scratch, as in the case of the opera. Instead I want to try to do the opposite: I want to try to explore the relationship of writers and poets with music, and I want to do it going back in time, from two distinguished poets of the twentieth century to the very original Monteverdi manipulations of poetic texts. chosen by him, where again and perhaps finally the composer becomes a poet by revising other people’s texts with his own music”, Massimo Acanfora Torrefranca.
