The concept of Transavenguardia (after the avant-garde) was invented by curator and researcher Achilla Oliva, in an exhibition that dealt with the return to painting in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This group of artists set themselves to bring back Italian fame to the figurative, expressive and personal painting. The Transavenguardia was part of a similar process made both in Germany and in the US. These artists began trend of reducing nationalism in art with the start of Globalism.
