On the occasion of the 19th edition of the Italian language week in the world: “The Italian Language on Stage”, in the framework of the XL Akko International Fring Theater Festival and with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa, the Italian Fringe Theater arrives in Israel with two original shows: MAIDEN and D.A.K.I.N.I.
Every year since 1979, the Festival of Alternative Theater has been held in Old Acre during the intermediate days of Succoth (Chol Hamoed). The festival takes place in the Hospitaller Fortress (the Knights’ Halls), which are historical archeological sites which serve both as a hostel and a very special décor for the festival’s plays. The festival is Israel’s biggest theater festival. It provides a forum for non-conventional theatre, which grants full freedom of creation to the entire theater staff: directors, producers, writers, actors, etc. The festival is known worldwide and hosts theater companies from the world over. In addition to the plays, other colorful festival events include street performances, bazaars and all sorts of fire, color and pantomime-related activities suited to all ages. The festival is attended by visitors from all over Israel, including tourists who flock to the sites of Old Acre.
With the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Haifa, this year Italy participates in the event with two unique shows in International Theater section:
- MAIDEN, written and directed by Giuseppe L. Bonifai, played by Alberto Martinez Guinaldo and Lide Martinez Abaigar.
- D.A.K.I.N.I., directed by Isadora Pei, played by Ester Fogliano, Federica Guarragi, Giulia Parri, Isadora Pei.
