XXXIV HAIFA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

14 ITALIAN MOVIES AT THE HAIFA FILM FESTIVAL

Fourteen Italian movies will be screened at the XXXIV Haifa International Film Festival, one of the most important and representative international film festivals in Israel.

Italy presents some very recent productions, which have already been appreciated by both critics and general public, such as Lucia’s Grace, by Gianni Zanasi, winner of the Label of Europa Cinémas Award in the Quinzaine des réalisateurs section of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival; Happy as Lazzaro (2018), by Alice Rohrwacher, winner, ex aequo, of the Best Screenplay Award (Alice Rohrwacher) at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and Loro (2018), by Paolo Sorrentino, winner of four Nastri d’Argento 2018. All the above mentioned movies are scheduled in the prestigious GALA section of the Festival.

Conversely, Doughter of mine (2018) by Laura Bispuri, premiered at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival and Ricordi? (2018), by Valerio Mieli, which was competing at the Giornate degli Autori of the 2018 Venice Film Festival, are both competing for this year GOLDEN ANCHOR Award. Besides, in the non-competitive PANORAMA section we will see Nome di donna (2018) by Marco Tullio Giordana; Just like my son (2018) by Costanza Quatriglio, premiered at the 2018 Locarno Festival and The vice of hope (2018), by Edoardo de Angelis, premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival 2018. Also non competing are Marco Ferreri: Dangerous but necessary (2017) by Anselma Dell’Olio, premiered at 2017 Venice Film Festival and winner 2018 David di Donatello Award 2018 as Best Documentary, and The man who stole Bansky (2018) by Marco Proserpio, both scheduled in the DOCUMENTARY CINEMA section. Finally, the MIDNIGHT MADNESS section will celebrate the Italian horror king Dario Argento with the out-of-competition screening of Deep Red (1975) and Suspiria (1977).

The program includes also a tribute to Massimo Troisi with the screening of The postman (1994), by Massimo Troisi and Michael Radford and The postman: A look inside (1994), by Stefano Veneruso.

The Italian participation in the Festival, which will close on October 1st, has been organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa and Istituto Luce Cinecittà.
