FROM DECO FILMS TO THERE IS STILL TOMORROW | A special movie program

Domani4

The Italian Cultural Institutes in Haifa and Tel Aviv present FROM DECO FILMS TO THERE IS STILL TOMORROW, a special movie program organized in collaboration with Cinecittà, Adamas and the Israeli cinematheques. All films are in Italian, with subtitles in Hebrew and English.

Deco films is the name given to Italian movie productions in the 1930s, in particular to comedies that dramatized the changes in Italian society at the time. Those were also the years of the fascist regime and for this reason the program includes The Old Guard by Mario Blasetti (1934), an example of how an authoritarian regime can use cinema to spread propaganda and affirm its ideology. The movie program opens with There’s Still Tomorrow by Paola Cortellesi, a film currently a box office hit in Italy, which the Rome and Haifa Film Festivals rewarded with prolonged standing ovations. There’s Still Tomorrow tells the story of Italy immediately after the Second World War from the point of view of a woman, whom the men in her life try in vain to humiliate and destroy. The program is completed by films that address highly topical themes common to many social contexts: from love to the condition of disabled people, all with a light and funny touch, in line with the tradition of Italian comedy.
