Insights

Shirley Finzi Loew is a literary translator, blogger, and educator specializing in Italian literature. She holds a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Haifa, and a diploma in Translation Studies from Tel Aviv University. After nearly two decades in the high-tech sector at Intel Corporation, she transitioned to a full-time literary career. She has translated more than thirty works from Italian and English into Hebrew, including titles by Elsa Morante, Natalia Ginzburg, Domenico Starnone, and Carlo Rovelli. She regularly teaches Italian literature at the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa and the Dante Alighieri Society in Jerusalem. Through her Hebrew-language blog, “On Italian Literature”, she shares reviews, reflections, and translations aimed at promoting Italian culture in Israel. From 2018 to 2023, she served on the Strega Prize jury representing the Italian Cultural Institutes in Tel Aviv and Haifa.
