After the screening of Einstein and Galileo, two feature films scheduled for the past edition of the Settimana della lingua italiana (IX), we have one more film by Cavani – Francesco, made by Cavani in 1989. Cavani had already focused her attention on the Saint from Assisi in 1966, with her first feature film Francesco d'Assisi. In Francesco, which has Mickey Rourke interpeting the role of Francesco, Cavani tried to give us a sense of the magnitude of the achievement of a man who stands out in the history of Christianity as well as in Italian history, as a formidable figure, a radical model both in religion and in life. This presentation is also aimed at marking the eight centuries since the foundation of the Franciscan Order.
