Avner (Piero) Calò was born in Switzerland were his parents had fled to escape racial persecution. He then grew up in Florence, then moved to Turin and Milan. He made "Alya" in 1968 settling at the Kibutz Maagan Michael and attending Ein Hod art school. Among his teachers Ora and Yosefh Shaltiel, Clare Yaniv and Yohanan Simon, but one should not overlook Marcel Janco's influence on his early work. However those who taught the art and use of the color were Shmuel Rayoni and Shmuel Bonè. Calò has been a painted for the past 40 years while at the same time working in the kibbutz and raising a family in the dazzling scenery of Maagan Michael. Calò likes to quote the poet Leah Goldberg, where she says " In the world there a number of beautiful things: trees, flowers, people, landscapes and by keepings one's own eyes opens one is able to see on a daily basis at least a hundreds marvels…" Colour is Calo's paintings bottomrock. Even after his son Naor's tragic death, he keeps on leaving in every painting of his a coloured trace of optimism.
