Event in honor of Sol Cittone Mirales, Holocaust survivor.Presents Maurizio Dessalvi, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa The Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa has the honor of inviting you to listen to the story and relive the memories ofSol Cittone Mirales grew up in Livorno, evacuated to Serravalle Pistoiese in1943, she survived Auschwitz.In January 1944, the Turkish-Italian Cittone family (father, mother and five children) was arrested in Serravalle Pistoiese, where the family members were living after being evacuated from heavily bombed Livorno, and deported to Auschwitz.Out of the entire family, only Mordechai Max, who died a few months after the end of the war, and his sister Sol had survived.Seventy years later, Sol Cittone, who is now 85 years old, residing in Haifa, shares her memories and relives Auschwitz's hell: "One morning I could not make it; I was feverish. So, I told the kapò, who probably wasn't even German. First she beat me, then she checked my fever: I had more than 40". "Come – she told me – I'll take you where they can heal you. And she took me to the gas chambers. She left me there with other women and left. Shortly after, dr. Mengele passed by, wearing his white coat. He asked me why I was there. I told him that I was well and he ordered me to return to my block.
