Book presentation and docu-film screeningHERSCU SAIM CAHAN: A ZIONIST JOURNEY FROM ROMANIA TO ERITREAIn the presence of the author, Mrs. Dova Cahan The book, "Un Askenazita tra Romania ed Eritrea" (GDS, 2010), and the short documentary "A Zionist Journey from Romania to Eritrea", written and directed by Dova Cahan, tell the story of Herscu Saim Cahan and his family during the years spent in Romania between 1912 and 1948; the second part of both the book and the docu-film is about the life in Asmara, Eritrea which is still drenched with Italian culture. "Herscu Saim Cahan, my father, was a zionist, a philantropist, a great man, out of the ordinary, a hero, a legend" (Dova Cahan). Dova Cahan, born in Bucarest in 1947, spent her first 20 years in Asmara. In 1967, after the Six Days War, she decides to move to Israel to complete her studies and to fulfill her father's zionist dream. However, those early years spent in Eritrea left in Cahan a deep mark, which – a lifetime later – is still there, unchanged, along with her connection to both Romania, her homeland, and Italy, the country in which language and culture she was educated.  Event in Italian. Documentary in Hebrew, with Italian subtitles. Monday, February10th 2014, at 19:00Italian Cultural Instituterehov Meir Rutberg 12 – Haifa
