Young Italian scholars travelling between East and West SEAHORSES IN THE HEADA lecture by dr. Flavia Aluisi, University of Bologna and University of Haifa. Introducing the hippocampus, a cerebral area considered central in the new spacial and cognitive memories acquisition process. The purpose of this presentation is to explain how memories arrange themselves in the brain and to illustrate how humans, and mammals in general, establish cerebral connections in order to remember. Furthermore, this area is particularly active in recollecting memories, i.e. it is very important in diseases like Alzheimer, where this capability fades away.Flavia Aluisi, after her scientific high school diploma, continued her studies at the University of Bologna, Alma mater studiorum, Department of Chemical and Farmaceutical Technologies, earning a MS degree in Electrophisiology (visual pathways in superior colliculus). The sperimental part of the thesis was carried out in the Medical School Basic Science Laboratory at Heraklion University (Crete), under the supervision of Prof. Yannis Dalezios. As certified pharmacist, in January 2013 Flavia Aluisi won a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Neurobiology at the University of Haifa, where today she continues her scientific research, under the guidance of professors Edi Barkai and Genela Morris.Event in Italian.Thursday, April 30th, 2015, at 19:00Italian Cultural Instituterehov Meir Rutberg 12 – Haifa FREE ADMISSION
