Israeli Poetry in Italian
More than other artistic expressions poetry may be said to be the internal voice of a people, where not only cultural and political standpoints maybe elicited, but also the deepest internal energies and forces, dreams, and drives, as well the matter of the most urgent interest. That is way the rich anthology edited by Ariel Rathaus for Einaudi Poeti israeliani contemporanei, can be read both as fascinaning literary explorations and as a most effective sounding of the soul of contemporary Israel. Ariel Rathaus was born in Rome in1949. He lives in Jerusalem where he teaches at the Hebrew University. He is the author of a number of articles and essays on Jewish Poetry between late Renaissance and Baroque as well as a book of poems in Hebrew, Sefer ha-zichronot (2001).
