On the occasion of the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute in Haifa presents a new series of THREE free events with Shirley Finzi Loew, translator and lecturer in Italian literature, exploring a century of Italian fiction through three women writers who shaped its themes, language and development. Marking the centenary of Grazia Deledda’s Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded in 1926, the autumn series is dedicated to three major figures in Italian literature: Grazia Deledda, the second woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature and still the only Italian woman writer to have been awarded it, whose work gave voice to Sardinia and its world in the early decades of the twentieth century; Alba de Céspedes, an innovative writer and a forerunner of the feminist perspectives that would become increasingly prominent in the second half of the century; and Donatella Di Pietrantonio, one of the leading voices in contemporary Italian literature.
Their works offer a journey through a century of change in Italian society, tracing the evolution of family and social relationships, individual identities, and the relationship between the individual and the surrounding world.
IMPORTANT
Reading the selected works, either in Italian or in translation, is not required, but is strongly recommended in order to make the most of the meetings and engage more fully with the topics discussed.
Italian editions are available from the Institute’s LIBRARY, in print and/or digital format (MLOL).
